DIVORCE, CHILD SUPPORT AND FAMILY LAW

Divorce, child support and child custody matters are emotionally and financially taxing.  You will be faced with life altering decisions involving you, your children and your financial well-being.

You need an attorney with the experience and knowledge to help guide you through these difficult times.

Things you must consider include the short term and long term ramifications of your case - regarding both yourself and others impacted by your case.  Some important questions are:

     - Can I expect to receive or pay alimony?

     - Should I expect to pay or receive any child support?  If so, how much?

     - What will the custody and visitation arrangements be for the children?

     - How will the property be divided?

     - Who will move out of the marital home and when could that be expected to happen?

     - Who will pay the bills during the divorce?

     - Who will pay the bills after the divorce?

Many well-meaning friends and relatives may offer you advice - some good, and perhaps some bad.  However, when it involves legal issues, the person involved must consider the following facts:

     - Every case is different.  Your friend's case may have involved different facts than yours.

     - After years of simplicity and stability, Georgia law regarding divorce, child custody and child support has rapidly changed and become more complex.  Much of this change (which is still ongoing) is a belated recognition that the traditional family, child rearing and financial roles are often blurred or changed in today's world.

Due to the rapidly - evolving nature of Georgia divorce and family law, a person involved in these proceedings should seek an attorney with the experience to reach the most favorable outcome.

Mr. Folsom's experience in family law is extensive and includes the following cases:

     - Representing a mother of a small child (an Atlanta resident) against an NFL Rookie of the Year and All Pro selection, for failure to pay child support, in Louisiana Courts.  The father was jailed as a result of his failure to pay child support.

     -
Successfully litigating several custody battles, after which Mr. Folsom's clients (the fathers - Air Force NCOs) were granted primary custody of their young children.

     -  Challenging the State Child Support Enforcement Agency's policies and procedures in an action to modify child support upwards.  The Appeals Court denied the State's appeal of a ruling favorable to Mr. Folsom's client.
